The rehabilitation of Jerusalem’s city wall is a three year project the purpose of which is the rehabilitation and conservation of the Old City walls for generations to come. The current plan is being implemented based on the principle of maintaining the present appearance of the walls. The activity to date has included performing a historical and urban survey and conducting a physical survey of the walls as a basis for the planning work. The planning phase divides the walls into fourteen sections for each of which specific planning will be done that will include: a historical review, documentation of its current condition, analysis of physical problems, an architectural analysis, prioritizing importance, conclusions and recommendations for treatment, a conservation plan and also an intervention report that will summarize the measures that were implemented in the rehabilitated section. The essence of the intervention activity is: removal of any dangers, cleaning vegetation, stabilizing the wall’s stones by means of completing any missing stonework/replacing stones and pointing up the joints with bonding material.
